The Lubavitch Rebbe, a descendent of the royal
house of David, is pictured as an example of the ideals surrounding the
theme of Parashas Shoftim, where Hashem's Divine command reveals the kind
of merit and conduct we should look for in Jewish leaders. Parashas Shoftim says when
choosing a king, ".... you shall choose a man from among your brethren,
and he shall not have too many horses or wives... and he will write for
himself two copies of this Torah and it shall be with him so he shall read
from it all the days of his life... so he will learn to fear Hashem and
observe all the words and these decrees, so as not to become haughty and
to further prolong the years of the kingdom."
