In Bereishis (Genesis) 17:7-8, the following is written: "I will maintain My covenant between Me and you and your offspring to come as an everlasting covenant throughout the ages, to be G-d to you and your offspring to come. I give the land you sojourn in to you and your offspring to come, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession." Three times G-d includes the words "offspring to come" which precludes Hagar's son who was already born, according to Bereishis (Genesis) 16:15. And so it was established... the bond between G-d, the Jewish people and the land, Eretz Yisrael... an everlasting bond that people in modern times cannot dissolve. |
