The RAMBAM, a man filled with the greatest love and compassion for all Jews, lived during the 1100's, in the Mediterranean region. Forced to flee Spain with his family as a young boy, the RAMBAM's family pushed-on from place to place for many years. These were troubled times when forced exile became common as Muslims from Africa forced Jews repeatedly from city to city. Finding temporary refuge in Morocco, the RAMBAM and his father then fled to Eretz Yisrael before settling in Alexandria. Despite his travails, the RAMBAM produced a body of Torah writings that amazed even later authorities in their scope, profundity and brilliance. Ultimately, his genius and moral and legal authority anchored the Jewish world in his own time when Jews struggled to survive tragic events and terrible persecutions, and at the same time, his vast wisdom and penetrating commentary forever illuminates the path of Torah for the righteous for this, and all future generations.
